Sunday’s humiliating 2-0 English Premier League defeat at West Ham United left under pressure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the brink just ten months after beginning his first spell at the Old Trafford helm.
The Norwegian has had a nightmare few games, starting when he failed to land Juventus star Paulo Dybala at the club and also ended up keeping Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.
The Red Devils have two wins, two draws and two defeats from their opening six games of the Premier League campaign.
And with Solskjaer seemingly running out of ideas and faith, one more defeat could see the former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri to take the job.
Allegri now finds himself without a club after Juventus dismissed him. He left Turin at the end of 2018/19 season. He had bought some great fortune to Juve, he led the giant to 5 Serie A wins and also reached two Champions League finals. He also won straight four Copa Italian trophies. And United are believed to feel the Italian is the only man who can get the club back on an even keel.
Former West Ham manager, Harry Redknapp, meanwhile, said that Solskjaer’s job could soon be under threat if results and performance don’t improve. But he believed United’s depressions are not the under fire manager’s fault.
“It’s a long way back for Manchester United, the team is nowhere near good enough. You can talk about Ole and you can criticise the managers, but the players he has are what they are.” Redknapp said.
“Manchester United have a great tradition, it’s a special football club, one of the great clubs in world football, so players will come. But they haven’t recruited well.
“The players they’ve got now, they will struggle. I don’t know about making the top four, they could even fall out of the top six if they’re not careful.” he added.
Solskjaer’s side now are sitting 8th place in the Premier League table with 8 points after playing six games. They will take on rivals Arsenal on October 1st.
