Marc Marquez Returns to the Track after Vision Problem

Marc Marquez returns this weekend in Austin as a rider in the MotoGP paddock. The Spaniard recently had to miss the Grand Prix in Argentina due to a serious crash a week earlier during the warm-up of the Indonesian Grand Prix.

On Thursday, on the eve of the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas, the eight-time world champion spoke about his crash, the past two weeks and his comeback.

“I don’t really have many memories of the crash. I remember the videos more than what I actually felt. But it is true that the Indonesian Grand Prix was one of the worst Grand Prix weekends of my career, because I crashed too often.” Marquez said.

“There were a few crashes that I didn’t understand, especially the one in the warm-up, when I had a fresh rear tire and just went off with a high-sider. But that’s a thing of the past, now it’s time to rebuild trust.

“Of course it was a tough week after Mandalika, but luckily for me the injury was less than last time. We even hesitated to start in Argentina, but I didn’t feel motivated to take that risk and I didn’t want to.” Marquez added.

MotoGP can get underway at COTA as expected. And the riders can look forward to what they almost universally described as the first normal weekend.

“It is possible, but we have to be honest, this is not the best way to start the weekend. I will approach the weekend differently here.” Marquez said.

“I only started training again a few days ago, so the approach for this weekend is not to go all out here and want to win. I’m trying to build trust and then we’ll see.” he added.

Marquez has won the American Grand Prix seven times in his career, only missing out on victory in 2019 when he failed to finish the race.
