Marquez, The “Wolf” in Ducati

Racer Johann Zarco considers Marc Marquez to be a “wolf” at Gresini Racing (Ducati). Zarco’s assessment of Marquez is based on the Spanish racer’s great desire to equal MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi’s world title record.

Marquez has collected eight world titles compared to The Doctor’s nine. Marquez’s move to Gresini after 11 seasons with Repsol Honda was allegedly due to personal interests, in addition to Baby Allien’s poor performance over the last 2 years with the Japanese manufacturer’s team.

The spotlight came to Marquez at the 2024 Portuguese MotoGP. He was involved in an incident with Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati). Both riders had to fall in the remaining three laps, causing Bagnaia not to continue racing. Meanwhile, Marquez finished in 16th position.

“I think Marc Marquez on Ducati is the ‘wolf’ in the chicken coop. Pecco is very calm, but Marc is annoying, so this will be very interesting,” said Zarco as quoted from Crash. Changing direction to Gresini did not reduce the image of the 31 year old racer. “For Ducati, Marc Marquez’s image is also very big,” added Zarco.

Currently, Bagnaia is in fourth place in the 2024 MotoGP standings with 37 points, 10 points ahead of Marquez in sixth place. The change of motorbike from Honda to Ducati provided its own challenges for Marquez in the last two races.

Despite facing challenges and different riding styles by adapting his motorbike, Marquez showed convincing performances in the last two series. “I think Marquez has the drive to win races. And in his head he wants to play for the championship,” said Zarco. “He wants to catch Valentino Rossi in the number of championship titles. I think it’s interesting and I’m almost happy to leave Ducati just when Marquez is coming,” the Honda rider added.

The third MotoGP series race will take place again at the United States GP. The series will start at the Circuit Of The Americas from 12 to 14 April 2024. Coming into this race, Jorge Martin leads the standings with 60 points from the two series. He came out as champion at the Portuguese MotoGP two weeks ago.
