Max Verstappen on last Sunday won the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, Italy, coming ahead of Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Perez.
Home team Ferrari Charles Leclerc was in a quiet third position until he ran with nine laps to go and took sixth place, leaving space for Lando Norris to jump to third, bringing McLaren’s first podium of 2022.
Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll finished in 10th place after starting from 15th position, and he earned his first point of the young season. His teammate Sebastian Vettel finished in 8th place.
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, was out of the scoring zone, finishing only 14th. Two-time world champion Fernando withdrew the race after another accident with Haaa driver Mick Schumacher.
This was the second victory of the season for Verstappen, who at Imola had a perfect weekend, with pole position on Friday, first place in the sprint race on Saturday and victory in the regular race with the extra point for having set the fastest lap.
“Yesterday and the day before, we were on it and it was looking like a strong weekend,” Verstappen said.
“Today, you never know with the weather how competitive you’re going to be as a team we did everything well and I think this one-two is well deserved.” Verstappen added.
Morning rain at Imola brought the first wet race of the season, with all drivers starting on intermediate tyres.
With the result, Verstappen scored 34 points and went to 59 points. Leclerc, despite the disastrous result, he still leads the world championship standings with 86 points.
F1 will come to American ground. The Miami Grand Prix will take place on the weekend of May 6-8, and it is a perfect opportunity to see the best car competition in the world live.
