Liverpool complete the third weekend of the 2018/2019 Premier League with a narrow victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield Stadium on Saturday (25/8).
Playing at Anfield Stadium, Liverpool won 1-0 over Brighton & Hove Albion. The home goal was scored by Mohamed Salah in the 23rd minute.
For Mohamed Salah, the goal was the 29th goal of 29 games at Anfield. Liverpool also extended the record of never losing in an English League match at home in the last 22 matches.
Liverpool tried to set the rhythm of the match at the start of the game. A moment with that, in the fifth minute Sadio Mane got the first opportunity that was still not heading towards the target.
In the ninth minute it was Roberto Firmino’s turn to score. His header can still be pushed over by goalkeeper Mat Ryan. The Reds got another chance when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free kick just made the ball hit Brighton’s crossbar.
Liverpool’s deadlock scored at the left foot of Mohamed Salah. After receiving feedback from Firmino, Salah managed to execute the opportunity in the 23rd minute. Brighton, who is more busy defending, is again threatened by close range Georginio Wijnaldum, who can still be blocked by Ryan Ryan in the 31st minute. Firmino again failed to score a goal in the 44th minute after the ball which was released still soared from the visitors’ goal.
Three minutes after the second half began Brighton presented the first golden opportunity that Anthony Knockaert failed to complete. The Seagulls tried hard to improve their appearance in the second half. But it has not been able to provide a threat consistently to the host defense area.
Attempting to endanger the opponent’s goal, Brighton actually missed two Liverpool chances from Alexander Arnold and Wijnaldum in the last ten minutes of normal time. Brighton almost thwarted Liverpool’s win if Pascal Gross’s header was not blocked by Alisson Becker.
Liverpool do not perform the best game but still have the right to three points. Wrong goal became the differentiator in the match at Anfield this time.
