Monaco sign Italian striker Pietro Pellegri for 25 million euros

AS Monaco signed Genoa striker Pietro Pellegri for 25 million euros in searching of a strong forward to strengthen its offensive line during the French Ligue 1 campaign.

The 16-year-old striker is already six-foot-three and his physical development suggests may be ready to deal with the French champion.

The princely club is preparing to make a very surprising blow, only a few hours after having achieved a new great deal by handing over Guido Carrilo for 22 million euros to Premier League club Southampton.

According to media, Pellegri is expected last Saturday in the Principality to spend his medical test and initial a 5 year contract with the key, an annual salary of one million euros.

“Monaco are happy to announce the signing of Pietro Pellegri. The phenomenon, aged 16, was tracked by the biggest European clubs but has chosen Monaco for their sporting project.” Monaco confirmed in a statement.

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev on the other hand, he told the club very delighted to sign a young talented player as Pellegri.

“We are very pleased to welcome Pietro to Monaco. He’s very young player who already has experienced in Serie A.” Vasilyev said.

“This is further proof that our work in recent seasons, the results and the players who have come through in our shirt, are attracting the greatest talents in European football.

“He has great qualities, big potential and we’re convinced that, with time a lot of work, he will become an important player.” Vasilyev added.

Pellegri distinguished himself by becoming the youngest player to start in Serie A at just 15 years and 9 months in December 2016. He also became at just 16 and a half, the first player in history of the Italian championship to register a double scored against Lazio Rome last September.
