Nico Rosberg has put Red Bull’s Sergio Perez as a driver who will get into the fight between Max Verstappen with the two Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
Perez has caused a sensation with his arrival at Red Bull Racing for the 2021 Formula 1 season, after not being taken into account at Racing Point despite giving the team a first place last year.
“I would not say Bottas isn’t in the fight because on a dry lap he is so fast, he can always beat Hamilton. Altough in the long run, on continuity, he doesn’t make it.” Rosberg said.
“I think Sergio Perez will also be in the game. We start a season where I think there are four potential World Championship winners and that’s very interesting.” Rosberg added.
Perez arrived in first position to reach the top of the podium for the first time in his career in F1 on December 6. On that occasion, although Hamilton did not race due to having coronavirus, Perez gave a chair in front of him steering wheel and gave Racing Point that enormous joy that was undervalued by owner Lawrence Stroll.
Rosberg added that Perez will be the rider who will surprise everyone in this championship, which begins on Sunday, March 28 with the Bahrain Grand Prix.
“Perez, as much as Perez can be considered a surprise. Because he will be. He will fight for the fastest lap. He will be in the game,” Rosberg said.
“I think it will be interesting to se what [Daniel] Ricciardo does with this progressing McLaren. And then the Alpha Tauri, which has been running so strongly in testing.” Rosberg added.
