No wonder Barcelona is so eager to bring Dani Olmo back. The 26-year-old midfielder who was one of Spain’s key figures when they won Euro 2024 is indeed a top player.
Barcelona won at Rayo Vallecano’s headquarters in the 3rd week of La Liga 2024/2025, Wednesday (28/8/2024). Barcelona won the Spanish League match with a score of 2-1.
Rayo took an early lead through Unai Lopez’s goal in the 9th minute, but Barcelona was able to turn things around. From Raphinha’s assist in the 60th minute, Pedri equalized the score. From Lamine Yamal’s assist in the 82nd minute, substitute Dani Olmo ensured Barcelona’s victory in his debut match.
Olmo, who is a graduate of La Masia, returned to his childhood club. He was recruited by Barcelona from RB Leipzig. Missing the first two weeks of La Liga this season because he could not be registered, he finally debuted in a Barcelona uniform against Rayo, and immediately scored the winning goal.
Olmo started the match from the bench. He came on for Ferran Torres early in the second half. He made an instant impact.
He provided a lot of answers for Barcelona in a difficult moment. In addition to his creativity and teamwork, he also continued to look for opportunities to threaten Rayo’s goal. Finally, he scored the goal needed to make his Barcelona debut perfect.
“That’s why he’s in our team. The first few minutes didn’t go well for us. We didn’t press well. We couldn’t combine. But in the second half, the team and Dani played a great game,” said Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, as quoted by Barca Blaugranes.
Olmo only played for 45 minutes for his boyhood team after finally getting permission to play. But the impact he showed was extraordinary!
He could have won a penalty with his first action. His powerful shot that hit the crossbar also seemed to announce his arrival in typical style.
The ease with which he integrated into the team, as well as the quality of his movement, was truly impressive. He didn’t look like a new Barcelona player.
His work ethic, as well as the winning goal, really made his debut perfect. No wonder Barcelona went all out to sign him once they found out he was available.
Olmo is sure to be a mainstay in Hansi Flick’s starting XI from now on. He will make Barcelona even stronger.
