OFFICIAL! Manchester United Signs Andre Onana from Inter Milan

Manchester United have completed the signing of goalkeeper André Onana from Inter Milan, the Premier League club announced on Wednesday.

Andre Onana replaced David de Gea as Man United’s new number one after the Spaniard failed to agree terms of a new contract and ended his 12-year career at Old Trafford earlier this month.

ESPN reports that the deal is worth 50 million euros ($56 million) and Onana has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford.

“Joining Manchester United is an incredible honour and I have worked hard my whole life to reach this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way,” said Andre Onana.

“Walking through Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another great experience.”

“Manchester United has a long history of great goalkeepers and I will now give everything to create my own legacy for many years to come. I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with Erik ten Hag again and I can’t wait to contribute to his success. I know he is determined to do well at this great football club.”

Red Devils coach Erik ten Hag has identified Onana as his main target to replace De Gea, who previously coached Onana in charge of Ajax.

Andre Onana spent seven years at Ajax and won three Eredivisie titles before joining Inter on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

In February 2021, he received a 12-month ban, which was later reduced to nine months following reports of doping violations.

Onana enjoyed a brilliant first season at Inter, starting every game and keeping eight clean sheets as they reached the Champions League final before losing to Manchester City.

He also helped the Milan team win the Coppa Italia.

“Andre is our top choice for Manchester United’s new goalkeeper, with the right profile of attributes and personality,” said Man United director of football John Murtough.

“Having achieved success throughout his career, we know that Andre will further add to the winning mentality we have built into our squad.”

“He is already one of the best goalkeepers in the world and at 27 years of age we are very confident that he can develop even further in the years to come.”

Onana joins Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton as senior goalkeepers at Old Trafford.

Sources have told ESPN that once Onana is officially a United player, Henderson will be given permission to join Nottingham Forest on a permanent basis.

Henderson spent last season on loan at Forest and although he has returned to Carrington to begin pre-season training, he is expected to join Nottingham for £20 million.

Onana is United’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea.
