Manchester United defender Raphael Varane is certain to leave Old Trafford at the end of the 2023-2024 season. This has been announced directly by Man United via the club’s official website and social media.
In the announcement, Varane was reported to be leaving after his contract expires in the summer of 2024. In this way, his journey with the club nicknamed the Red Devils ended after three seasons together.
“Raphael Varane has confirmed he will leave Manchester United in the summer, after his contract expires, after three seasons at Old Trafford,” wrote Man United on the club’s official website, Tuesday (14/5/2024).
“Everyone at United thanks Rapha for his service and wishes him well for the future,” concluded the statement.
For information, Varane was recruited by Man United in August 2021 with a dowry of 40 million Euros. Since then he has become an important figure in the back line of the Manchester Red Army.
To date, the French defender has made 93 appearances for Man United and contributed two goals. He was part of Erik Ten Hag’s team when they won their first title in six years in the 2022-2023 English League Cup final after beating Newcastle United with a score of 2-0.
In the Premier League alone, the 31 year old defender has made 67 appearances with 58 appearances as a starter. He has been absent since the 3-4 defeat suffered by Bruno Fernandes and colleagues from Chelsea on April 4.
However, Varane is currently working hard to recover from his injury. He is also expected to be able to return to playing before this season ends.
Man United still has three more matches left at the end of this season. They will meet Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League before playing the big 2023-2024 FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25 at Wembley.
