Tennis News: Chilean Cristian Garin recorded seven consecutive wins when he claimed a 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory over Argentine qualifier Federico Coria at the Rio Open in Rio de Janeiro.

With the victory that led him to the semifinals, Cristian Garin said, “It was a very tight match. Federico is a player who has developed a lot. “

“I am happy to be in the semifinals. And Conditions are difficult, but I won, so I want to prepare for the next match.”

However Since April last season, third seed Garin has won three titles and all of them he won on clay-court. Now, he has only two more wins to win the fourth title of his career.

In Fact, Garin who won in Cordoba earlier this month, also had to fight through the rain to overcome the 116th-ranked world player Coria in 2 hours 15 minutes.

And Garin seemed to be in control of the match when he was likely to win a ticket to the semifinals at 5-4 in the deciding set. But Coria, Garin did not give victory easily.

Garin was unable to take advantage of the golden opportunity he got and allowed Coria to get the chance to turn things around.

However, when Garin again got a chance to win the match, he didn’t waste it and fired a return that made Coria’s forehand return too wide.

Garin, who won 76 percent points from his first serve, will face fifth seed Borna Coric who beat Lorenzo Sonego 7-6 6-3.

Coric match was stopped for almost 4 hours due to rain when Sonego was leading 5-4 in the first set.

“I’m very relieved. So I have to say, I think it’s my best match of the season besides the win against Thiem in the ATP Cup. So far, this match is the best. and I prepare myself if the rain interferes with the match. Then I estimate it and you just have to face it, “explained Coric.

Earlier, Chilean Garin fired 22 winners on his way to seal a 6-4 6-3 victory over Argentine Delbonis in 1 hour 37 minutes. The 23-year-old Garin won the Cordoba Open two weeks ago (beating Diego Schwartzman) and he has won the last six matches he has played.

Furthermore, the third seed, Garin will face Delbonis compatriot Federico Coria who dashed hopes of the host, Carlos Alcaraz, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. With that defeat, the debut of 16-year-old Alcaraz at the ATP tournament ended for now. Alcaraz produced a number of beautiful winners throughout the match, but his steps were blocked with 35 unforced errors he made, while Coria only made 9 unforced errors.
