Oscar Valdez says he will retain his title against Scott Quigg at ‘all costs’

Oscar Valdez says he is “ready to go to war” when he faces Scott Quigg on March 10.

The undefeated Mexican (23-0-KO19) will be making the fourth defence of the WBO featherweight title he won in 2016, and believes the knowledge he has gained from sparring his Bury counterpart last year will pay dividends when they meet at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, live on Sky Sports.

“We are more than ready to go to war and defend the title at all costs on March 10,” Valdez said

“We know him very well, and we know that his style in combination with mine is the perfect storm that will give the fans a great show. This will be my fourth world title defence, and I have learned a lot from my battles against warriors like Miguel Marriaga and Genesis Servania.

“Now, I have an even more difficult fight against Scott Quigg. We are well prepared for whomever. This title stays with me in Mexico. “

Quigg (34-1-2-KO25) will be aiming to become a two-weight world champion after stepping up to 126lbs following his unsuccessful attempt to unify the super-bantamweight division against Carl Frampton in 2016.

The Bury fighter has subsequently switched his training base to Los Angeles where he is now under the guidance of Hall Of Fame coach Freddie Roach, but Valdez is unconcerned about his opponent’s preparations, and feels he has done everything in his own build-up to be victorious on the night.

“For this fight, I did the hard part of my training in Guadalajara, and I think it has been one of the best preparations of my career because I trained so calmly and so peacefully,” he said.

“Here in Los Angeles, we are putting the final touches on our preparation. We are doing very well with the weight. Now I’m just focused on the fight.”
