Pep Guardiola and Lionel Messi Donate €1 Million to Fight Against Coronavirus Outbreak

Pep Guardiola has joined the current of solidarity that has flooded football and donated a million euros to the Barcelona Medical College to fight against coronavirus.

According to reports, Spain is currently one of the most severely infected countries, with nearly 40,000 cases and an estimated 3,000 deaths.

“The former stars and former coach of FC Barcelona and current coach of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, has made a donation to the Angel Soler Daniel Foundation of one million euros for the acquisition and supply of medical supplies in the face of the health emergency of the pandemic of COVID-19.” the college said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The donations campaign promoted by the Barcelona College Medical and managed through the Angel Soler Daniel Foundation aims to collect medical supplies and financial contributions from licensed medical and the general population of the purchase of health material and equipment that is currently lacking in health centres in Catalonia and also to be able to finance the alternative production (through 3D printing and others) of respirators ad other protection elements for healthcare personnel.

“Donation for this campaign, which started on March 21, can be made in the bank account ES66 0182 4383 9002 0185 8057 of the Angel Soler Daniel Foundation, and to date they have already totaled 33,000 euros. All the contributions collected will go towards the acquisition and production of material, which will be distributed to health centres throughout Catalonia according to needs and urgency and I coordination with the Department of Health.” the college added.

Lionel Messi has also reportedly donated a million euros to hospital in Barcelona to help fight against coronavirus outbreak.

“Leo Messi made a donation to fight against COVID-19 in the clinic. Thank you very much, Leo, for your support and your commitment.” said Hospital Clinic of Barcelona on its Twitter page.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has also taken part in several campaigns to raise awareness over the past week, highlighting the importance of staying at home and washing hands to avoid the virus from spreading.
