Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola recently spoke out about the future of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus.
Sterling and Jesus were no longer regularly recognised by Guardiola, and with City having successfully recruited Erling Haaland, both players’ opportunity to play next season is expected to be significantly reduced.
“They who are here, with their families, most of them outside their countries, to play their profession, and you tell them that they will not play. That is impossible to fix.” Guardiola said.
“The only thing you can do is redirect through the word, tell them that they will play the next game.” Guardiola added.
According to Mirror, the pair are set to leave the Etihad this summer. Sterling is aiming for Chelsea, while Jesus is reportedly considering Arsenal as his next destination.
“If you want to leave because you’re not happy here, you believe you’ll be happy in another place, you have to go.” Guardiola said.
“The career is short, one day it’s over. If he wants to leave, absolutely no disappointment. It’s his desire, I’m happy for him.” the Spaniard added.
Sterling is expected to play more often at Chelsea, especially since the Blues recently ended things with striker Romelu Lukaku.
Meanwhile, Arsenal is in need of strikers after losing two key players in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
Recent events indicate that the two sides’ efforts to pursue City are succeeding and that a deal will likely be reached soon.
“The hardest thing about leading the team is keeping the players happy when they are not playing. There is no solution, that’s why good players want to leave, because They want to play regularly.” Guardiola said.
“I cannot keep a player who is not playing, just because he has a contract. I told my players that I wanted to see them happy, if anyone is not happy, they have to go.” Guardiola added.
