Manchester City had to settle for one point after being held by Crystal Palace 0-0 on matchday 29 of the Premier League at Selhurst Park Stadium, Monday (14/3).
In the 13th minute, Michael Olise gave Man City a threat. However, Olise’s left foot flick was still wide on the right side of Ederson’s goal.
One minute later, Kevin de Bruyne fired a left footed shot from outside the penalty box, but it was blocked by the goalkeeper. Bernardo Silva tried to strike a wild ball, but failed to produce a goal.
Riyad Mahrez kick from inside the penalty box in the 23rd minute can still be caught by goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.
Aymeric Laporte threw away a golden opportunity for Man City to take the lead in the 27th minute. The golden opportunity came through Joao Cancelo’s kick from outside the penalty box.
However, Cancelo’s kick hit the post. Laporte stood in the right position in the Palace penalty area, as Cancelo’s ball hit the post towards the Spain defender.
It’s just that Laporte’s flick was still flying over the bar even though the Palace goal was in an empty position after the goalkeeper was still lying on the field after trying to ward off Cancelo’s kick.
The goalkeeper made another save by catching the ball from Mahrez’s kick which took advantage of Phil Foden’s cross in the 32nd minute.
In the second half Man City kept control of the game, but struggled to find the net.
Man City’s goal opportunity in that match was lost for the umpteenth time in the 71st minute. Jack Grealish provided a good pull pass in front of the Palace goal.
However, Bernardo Silva who moved from behind could not get the ball into Guaita’s goal. Bernardo’s foot did not hit the ball perfectly, so the ball just moved away from the field.
Goalkeeper Vicente Guaita made a save by denying Jack Grealish’s shot in the 77th minute.
In the final minutes, precisely in the 82nd minute, it was Odsonne Edouard’s turn which was blocked by the Man City defense.
In the minutes of injury time, Guaita several times had a brilliant response to save the goal from the threat of Man City. Without additional goals in the remaining matches, Man City were held by Palace 0-0.
