Real Madrid won 3-0 over Real Mallorca on matchday 28 of the LaLiga Santander at the Visit Mallorca Stadium, Monday (14/3).
Early in the first half, Madrid, who appeared at the opponent’s cage, had played aggressively. Madrid even threatened the hosts since the 6th minute, but Karim Benzema’s left foot shot was saved by Sergio Rico, resulting in a corner. Ferland Mendy again threatened not long after, but Rico’s long-range effort was also denied.
In the 11th minute Vedat Muriqi volleyed in, but his effort was yet to produce a goal after failing to hit the target.
Madrid’s defense again made topsy-turvy by Mallorca. In the 35th minute, number 15 almost put Mallorca ahead, but unfortunately his left-footed shot still hit the Madrid goal post.
Benzema’s combination with Vinicius Junior in the 43rd minute in the Mallorca penalty box resulted in a chance from the Brazilian. However, Vinicius’ kick was blocked by Pablo Maffeo.
One minute later, it was David Alaba’s turn to kick after receiving Vinicius’s cross which hit the opposing defense.
Madrid had to wait until the 55th minute to take the lead over Mallorca. It was Vinicus Junior who brought Los Blancos ahead in the second half.
Madrid’s goal was met with protests from the Mallorca camp. The reason is, before the goal occurred Madrid midfielder Valverde was first deemed to have violated Iddrisu Baba.
However, the referee did not consider the duel as a violation. Benzema then picked up the ball to pass it to Vinicius as an assist.
Benzema added Madrid’s lead to 2-0 in the 77th minute with a penalty kick. The referee awarded the penalty after Brian Olivan violated Vinicius.
The visitors moved away with a 3-0 lead in the 82nd minute again through Benzema. The French striker found the net for Mallorca with a header using Marcelo’s cross.
Mallorca continues to try to score a goal back. In the minute of injury time Kang In Lee fired a shot, but it was saved by Thibaut Courtois.
Madrid had played with 10 men after Benzema was withdrawn in the 86th minute due to injury. Madrid have used five substitutions so no player has come off the bench. But the score 3-0 did not change until the end of the match.
Thanks to these additional three points, Madrid is comfortably at the top of the standings with 66 points, with a 10-point lead over Sevilla in second place. While Mallorca is at number 16 with 26 points.
