Arsenal won 4-2 over Leeds United thanks to a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hat trick in Week 24 of the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium, Sunday (14/2).
Aubameyang helped Arsenal win 4-2 over Leeds. This is the Gabon striker’s first hat-trick in the Premier League.
Arsenal took the lead in the 13th minute thanks to striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal who took advantage of Granit Xhaka’s assist. Aubameyang’s right footed shot from inside the penalty box to the near post could not be reached by goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
In the 39th minute Arsenal have the opportunity to add a goal from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Illan Meslier blunders by breaking Bukayo Saka.
Aubameyang’s penalty was a success. The Gabon striker’s kick to the right side of the goal can be read by Meslier. But the swift pace of the ball made Arsenal lead 2-0 in the 41st minute.
Meslier had to collect the ball from the net for the third time in the first half after Hector Bellerin scored in the 45th minute after receiving a Dani Ceballos pass. Bellerin’s goal was also the result of Saka’s creation which accelerated in front of the Leeds penalty box, then created chaos, until finally Ceballos gave Bellerin a through ball.
The hosts further away from Leeds after adding a goal early in the second half. Aubameyang scored a hat trick in the 47th minute to give the Gunners a 4-0 lead after using Emile Smith-Rowe’s pass.
Although behind 0-4, Leeds still tried to score a goal back. The return goal was finally born in the 58th minute through Pascal Struijk’s header after receiving Raphinha’s pass.
Marcelo Bielsa’s team again reduced the score to 2-4 through Helder Costa’s feet in the 69th minute thanks to an assist from Tyler Roberts.
Both Arsenal and Leeds both have a number of opportunities in the remaining matches. However, no goals were created, Arsenal won 4-2 over Leeds.
Arsenal returned to winning ways after losing league matches twice in succession. They again overtook Leeds to 10th place with 34 points from 24 games, while Leeds finished 11th with 32 points but had one game more left.
“We knew it was going to be a difficult match. Leeds never gave up but in the end we showed good management,” Arsenal captain Aubameyang said.
