Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw at West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League match at The Hawthorns Stadium, Sunday (14/2).
Manchester United was surprised by West Brom’s fast goal through Mbaye Digne’s header in the second minute after using Conor Gallagher’s cross.
The visitors tried to respond with Fred’s shot from outside the area in the eighth minute, but they were still too weak and easily caught by the goalkeeper.
In the 23rd minute Marcus Rashford creates an opportunity with a cross from the right. However, Anthony Martial who was targeted moved too late, so the ball could be wiped out by the opponent.
In the 25th minute Diagne again gave a threat to Man United. Matheus Pereira’s free kick was met by Diagne’s header, but it was too wide on the left.
De Gea makes a vital save with a Robert Snodgrass header from Conor Townsend’s cross.
Man Utd tried to dismantle West Brom’s defense with attacks from my side, especially through Rashford and Luke Shaw’s crosses.
The New Red Devils could score the equalizer before the first half broke up. Shaw’s cross from the left was put to good use by Bruno Fernandes through a left-footed volley which directly lodged in the top left corner of Sam Johnstone’s goal.
Johnstone can still catch Fernandes’ kick in the 58th minute after hitting West Brom defender first.
Harry Maguire was brought down by Ajayi in the penalty box in the 62nd minute. However referee Craig Pawson did not consider it a foul after reviewing the VAR.
Man United’s offensively attack in the 69th minute could not change the score. First, Mason Greenwood’s left-footed shot which Johnstone could block, then a wild ball was exploited by Scott McTominay which this time was countered by a West Brom player.
De Gea made another neat save in the 78th minute. Diagne has a golden opportunity after Maguire’s blunder. However, Diagne’s first chance could be blocked by De Gea, the ball rebounded immediately by the Spanish goalkeeper without being headed by the West Brom striker.
The focus of attacking makes Manchester United’s defense loose. In the 88th minute, Diagne almost made Manchester United’s goal collapse again after his shot flew over the bar.
Bruno Fernandes shot from outside the penalty box in the 90th minute + 3 can still be secured by Sam Johnstone. United’s last chance came from Harry Maguire after his header was pushed over by the keeper and hit the post. Without additional goals, West Brom successfully drew Manchester United 1-1.
