Premier League Results: Man City beat Arsenal 5-0

Defending champions Manchester City silenced Arsenal with a landslide score of 5-0 in the third week of the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium, Saturday (28/8).

Playing at the Etihad Stadium, Man City have shown how superior they are to the visitors. Since the early minutes, The Citizens were able to control the game.

Man City took a quick lead in the seventh minute through Ilkay Gundogan’s header which took advantage of Gabriel Jesus’ cross from the right. Gundogan himself easily put the ball into Bernd Leno’s goal because his position was not under pressure from the Gunners defense.

Five minutes later the hosts added the advantage through Ferran Torres kick in the 12th minute. The goal came from Bernardo Silva’s cross, which Cedric Soares failed to anticipate.

Soares’ blunder made the ball lead to Torres who without difficulty breaking into Bernd Leno’s goal. However, Torres’ goal was subject to a VAR check for an alleged foul.

Calum Chambers is claimed to have been violated by Aymeric Laporte. However, the referee considered Torres’ goal still valid.

Arsenal in danger after Granit Xhaka was sent off by the referee in the 35th minute. The Swiss national team player was sent off for protesting loudly after being violated by Joao Cancelo.

The advantage of the number of players put to good use by The Citizens. In the 43rd minute it was Gabriel Jesus’ turn to register his name on the scoreboard after receiving an assist from Jack Grealish.

In the second half, Rodri increasingly made Arsenal’s visitors suffer through goals in the 53rd minute. Rodri broke into Leno’s goal for the fourth time after utilizing Ferran Torres’ assist.

In the 77th minute, Raheem Sterling almost brought Man City ahead 5-0. But unfortunately, Sterling’s chances, which had faced one on one with Leno, failed to produce a goal.

Man City’s fifth goal was finally created in the 84th minute through Torres. Torres scored the second goal after utilizing Riyad Mahrez’s assist which entered in the second half.

Pep Guardiola’s team had a number of good opportunities to add to the score. However, Mahrez’s effort in the 90+1 minute could be thwarted by Leno. Joao Cancelo’s chance after dealing with Leno in the 90+2 minute was also countered by Leno.

Without additional goals in the remaining matches, Man City won 5-0 over Arsenal in the Premier League home game.

The defeat to Man City has made Arsenal still have no points from three Premier League matches this season. The position of the Gunners was slumped in the relegation zone.
