Chelsea again achieved unsatisfactory results in the 2023-2024 Premier League. Visiting Bournemouth headquarters, Sunday (17/9/2023), the Blues failed to win after only drawing without goals.
After losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest in their last league game, Chelsea dominated possession in the first half with Nicolas Jackson hitting the post in the 14th minute and Conor Gallagher squandering a golden opportunity just after the half hour mark.
Dango Outtara enjoyed Bournemouth’s best chance in the first half, but Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez dived to block his close-range shot.
In fact, Mauricio Pochettino’s team really need to win in this match. Unfortunately, they could only bring home one point from Bournemouth headquarters.
Chelsea and AFC Bournemouth did not display high intensity at the start of the first half. Because of this, both teams tried to develop their respective games.
Both teams did create a number of opportunities until the middle of the first half. However, the long-awaited goals were not yet scored in that match.
The Blues – Chelsea’s nickname – had to close the first half with a 0-0 position against AFC Bournemouth. The second game shown was quite tight.
The visitors managed to score early in the second half when Raheem Sterling’s free kick hit the post and crossbar, and Levi Colwill tapped in the rebound, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
AFC Bournemouth appeared quite persistent at the start of the first half. This indicated that the home team was trying to pressure Chelsea’s defense in an effort to open up the lead in that match.
Chelsea didn’t just sit there because they were also quite impressive in launching counterattacks. However, again both teams were still deadlocked in scoring goals.
Chelsea almost scored a winner five minutes from the end of normal time when Sterling teed up Cole Palmer, but Cherries goalkeeper Neto made a brilliant one-handed reflex save.
Until the end of the second half, not a single goal was scored in that match. AFC Bournemouth had to accept a 0-0 draw against Chelsea.
This draw saw Bournemouth move up to 15th place with three points, two points and one place behind Chelsea.
