Chelsea managed to win dramatically over Crystal Palace in Week 24 of the 2023-2024 Premier League, on Tuesday (13/2/2024). Having fallen behind at first, Chelsea was able to recover and make a comeback with a 3-1 win over the home team.
Playing at Selhurst Park Stadium, London, the team nicknamed The Blues initially trailed 0-1 from the 30th minute. Palace managed to take the lead thanks to a goal from Jefferson Lerma in the 30th minute.
17 minutes after Palace’s goal, Chelsea managed to equalize. It was Conor Gallagher who succeeded in making the score 1-1, which was the final result in the first half.
Entering the second half, both Chelsea and Palace tried to score additional goals. However, both teams seemed to be having difficulty until the score remained at 1-1 until the match entered the 90th minute.
Interestingly, during injury time, precisely in the 90+1 minute, Chelsea managed to score an additional goal through Gallagher’s contribution again. The 2-1 score for Chelsea also made the players look cheerful because they scored the winning goal in the final minutes of the match.
Amazingly, Chelsea was still able to add a goal in the 90+4 minute. This time it was Enzo Fernandez’s turn to score a goal for Tbe Blues.
As a result, Chelsea managed to win in a dramatic comeback over Palace with a score of 3-1. This result made Chelsea rise to 10th position in the 2023-204 Premier League standings with 34 points.
Meanwhile, Palace is stuck in 15th place with 24 points. Next, Chelsea will challenge Manchester City on Sunday 18 February 2024.
For Chelsea coach, Mauricio Pochettino, the Blues’ recent dramatic victory over Crystal Palace was not just about winning three points. But it also serves as capital to increase the motivation of the players who will next meet tough opponents, Manchester City.
“Our first half was very slow and flat. We were very disappointed for 45 minutes, but in the second half we started the match the way we should. In the end, I think we deserved it,” said Mauricio Pochettino, quoted from Football London, Tuesday (13/ 2/2024).
Mauricio Pochettino wants Chelsea to show a performance like when they won 3-1 over Aston Villa in the fourth round of the 2023-2024 FA Cup, because they can consistently create lots of chances and perform well. Apart from that, he explained that the victory over Crystal Palace was Chelsea’s motivation to face Manchester City.
“We are trying to be more consistent in creating (chances) and always performing (good) in the way we performed against Aston Villa. But we got the three points to prepare ourselves to face Manchester City next week,” he explained.
