Arsenal brought home full points after winning over Everton in the fifth week of the 2023-2024 Premier League, on Sunday 17 September 2023. To be precise, the team nicknamed The Gunners won with a narrow score of 1-0.
The only goal scored at Goodison Park in the Everton vs Arsenal match was scored by Leandro Trossard in the 69th minute. With this result, Arsenal is in fourth place with 13 points. Meanwhile, Everton, who so far have not won, is in 18th position with 1 point.
Arsenal immediately appeared to attack in the early minutes against Everton. In fact, the match had only been running for 19 minutes, Arsenal succeeded in shaking Everton’s goal net.
Unfortunately, the goal scored by Gabriel Martinelli was disallowed by the referee. During the goal, Eddie Nketiah turned out to be in an offside position.
Arsenal’s failure to score quick goals did not reduce the fighting power of Mikel Arteta’s troops. In fact, the Gunners continued to attack Everton’s defense
After failing to score, Martinelli was withdrawn and replaced with Trossard. Martinelli was replaced because the player looked in pain due to injury.
The slick defense built by Everton made it difficult for Arsenal to complete their mission to penetrate the penalty box.
Even so, Arsenal never relaxed their attacks, until the first goal was scored by Leandro Trossard in the 70th minute using a pass from Bukayo Saka.
Since then, many opportunities were created, they could not create additional goals until the second half ended. As a result, the Everton vs Arsenal match ended with a score of 0-1.
Unbeaten Arsenal join Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool on 13 points from five games, two points behind leaders Manchester City who have a 100% record.
A third successive 1-0 home defeat left Everton third from bottom on one point.
Arsenal will return to action in the Champions League on Wednesday followed by next weekend’s north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
Arsenal’s last league win at Everton was in 2017 and ended Ronald Koeman’s reign at Everton.
After the match, Mikel Arteta admitted that the victory over Everton was more enjoyable than the one he got against Man United the previous week.
“I really enjoyed this win. Against Manchester United, I saw my face afterwards and it was a bit of a relief. “If we win over Everton, this is a pleasure,” said Arteta.
Arteta’s words seem to be understandable. Apart from ending a six-year curse at Goodison Park, in this match Arsenal really put on a performance that was pleasing to the eye.
“It’s been a long time without a win here. We played a great match, we didn’t give Everton anything. We dominated the game and created lots of chances. The score could have been bigger,” he said again.
