Premier League Results: West Ham Displace Liverpool

West Ham United displaced Liverpool from the top four of the Premier League standings after a 3-0 win over Sheffield United at the London Stadium, Tuesday (16/2).

When the game has been running for 5 minutes, defender Craig Dawson was brought down by Enda Stevens in the penalty box. Referee Simon Hooper also used VAR to confirm the incident. After reviewing VAR, Hooper decided not to give West Ham a penalty because Dawson was caught offside first.

On loan from Manchester United, Jesse Lingard, tried to put West Ham ahead in the 24th minute, but his shot was pushed over by Aaron Ramsdale.

In the 36th minute Ben Osborn’s shot almost broke into West Ham’s goal. However, the anticipation from Lukasz Fabianzki by tapping the ball made Sheffield fail to excel in the first half.

West Ham took the advantage of a penalty in the 39th minute after Lingard brought down by Chris Basham. Declan Rice, who became the executor, successfully broke into the Sheffield goal in the 41st minute. Even though it read by Ramsdale, the Sheffield goalkeeper could not push the ball.

The Hammers increased the advantage to 2-0 in the second half, to be precise in the 58th minute through Issa Diop’s header after utilizing Aaron Cresswell’s assist.

Fabianski made another great save in the 68th minute. David McGoldrick’s header after using a cross can be caught by Fabianski.

Lingard’s kick from outside the penalty box in the 70th minute can still be pushed over by Ramsdale. David Moyes’ team’s efforts to distance themselves from Sheffield failed again.

Vladimir Coufal wasted a golden opportunity for West Ham in the 73rd minute. Coufal’s kick can still be blocked by Ramsdale even though both of them are head to head.

Despite being two goals behind, Sheffield has not given up and continues to exert pressure on West Ham. In the 81st minute, it was Oliver McBurnie’s turn to threaten West Ham.

However, McBurnie’s header that took advantage of Ben Osborn’s cross from the left was still able to be caught by Fabianski.

Towards the end of the match, West Ham increased their advantage and locked the victory to 3-0 with an additional Ryan Frederick goal in the 90 + 6 minute after receiving Said Benrahma’s pass. Frederick’s shot at the near post was beyond Ramsdale’s reach.

An additional three points over Sheffield made West Ham collect 42 points and moved up to fourth in the Premier League standings, as well as displacing Liverpool who fell to fifth.
