Rafael Nadal Explains He’s Not Afraid of Retirement

Rafael Nadal is an extremely talented tennis player. The only problem being he is playing in the same area as that Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

The Spaniard is already the best player. He has held World No.1 ranking for around 196 weeks. Nadal has a total of 81 singles titles in his career so far. He is also widely regarded as the undisputed King of Clay.

When asked how he would feel about his retirement, Nadal said: “Everything has a beginning and everything has an end, and I am not one of those people who are afraid of the end.

“I think I feel respect for it, yes, but no fear. When the end comes it will be time to accept it and continue looking for motivations in life. During all these months I have thought very little about tennis,” Nadal added.

“I think there have been much more important things and enough misfortunes to think about something that I think is still secondary. I reserve my verdict right now, because I am waiting for how things evolve,” Nadal said.

“When the time comes, I will make a decision and I will do it after talking with my family and my team, together we will make the decision that we think is best for us more.” he added.

The 2020 US Open is scheduled to start on August 31 in New York, but Nadal has insisted that he will not play this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Nadal has said he is concerned about his health as well as the health of others. He admitted the decision was not an easy one, as he will miss the iconic tournament.

“The health situation is very complicated around the world with cases increasing and flare-ups. This is a decision I never wanted to take but I have decided to follow my heart this time and for the time being I rather not travel.” Nadal said.
