The German coach, Ralf Rangnick, is claimed to have agreed to coach Manchester United for a period of six months.
The figure who is now the Head of Development and Sport at the Lokomotiv Moscow club is allegedly set to sign a contract with the interim coach position until the end of this season.
The team management conducted intensive discussions about the coach who was currently needed.
Quoted from Sky Sports, Man Utd are also still in contact with Lokomotiv Moscow to agree on Rangnick’s release clause.
Meanwhile, CBS said Lokomotiv had no problem with Rangnick’s move to Man Utd.
Rangnick’s name had been mentioned as a Man Utd coach, but the presence of famous names in the coach candidate market such as Zinedine Zidane and Mauricio Pochettino made the 63-year-old figure not a favourite.
Later Rangnick was again called a strong candidate after Man Utd overhauled the coach candidate. The former ruler of the Premier League no longer includes big names, but coaches who more often deal with mid-table clubs in Europe.
Apart from Rangnick, there was also news about Ernesto Valverde, Rudi Garcia, Lucien Favre, and Paulo Fonseca as Man Utd coach candidates.
Rangnick is one of the most respected figures in German football. Prior to his position at Lokomotiv Moscow, Rangnick had coached German League clubs such as RB Leipzig, Schalke 04, Hoffenheim, Hannover, and VfB Stuttgart.
Facing the weekend match against Chelsea, Man Utd will still be handled by Michael Carrick, who in the middle of last week brought Cristiano Ronaldo and his friends to victory over Villarreal in the Champions League.
Rumors of Rangnick’s arrival have become a problem for Ronaldo, who has just returned to Man Utd at the start of this season.
The football character that Rangnick often applies is predicted to be incompatible with Ronaldo’s playing style.
Rangnick is a person who prioritizes the pressing game. Even the 63-year-old man is referred to as the ‘godfather’ of the gegenpressing game that influenced German coaches such as Jurgen Klopp and Julian Nagelsmann.
At a time when Rangnick-style football wants players to continue to press opponents, both when holding the ball and losing the ball, Ronaldo is known to be a player with a low pressing level.
Quoted from the Mirror, the level of pressing is not high enough. The aging Portuguese star has only put 39 pressure on opponents this season, or still less than the centre-backs Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane.
With a low level of pressure on opponents, Ronaldo could have been knocked out of the Man Utd starting lineup if Rangnick really became a coach at the club that has 20 Premier League titles.
Moreover, Man Utd have many players who can fill the position up front. Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Martial can fill the spearhead role that has been carried out by Ronaldo.
But Ronaldo’s goal-scoring ability could be an antidote for Rangnick to continue playing one of the most successful players in the Champions League.
