Real Madrid President Says Kylian Mbappe Has Forgotten

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has described Madrid’s Champions League triumph, while convincing fans that Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe is now forgotten.

Los Blancos on Saturday night lifted the 14th Champions League trophy,  beating Liverpool 1-0 in Paris thanks to a second-half goal from Vinicius Jr.

Perez was asked if he was still frustrated at missing out on Mbappe after the game, but he responded quickly to make it clear he had already moved on.

“Today there is no Mbappe, today there is a Real Madrid party. Madrid will always continue to work on having the best players.” Perez said.

“The Mbappe issue is forgotten, nothing has happened. Madrid has had a perfect season and it is a forgotten issue.” Perez added.

Madrid’s preparations for their 17th Champions League final were overshadowed by the Mbappe transfer saga, which came to an end when the striker announced his decision to sign a new contract at PSG on Saturday.

The 24-year-old forward had come to terms with Madrid before turning around. Madrid were ready to offer the France international a five-year contract with a wage of 30 million euros per year. Over his entire contract, he would therefore have earned 150 million euros, according to reports.

“This year we’ve had a good season. We’ve played all the best teams and we’ve overcome them one after the other.” Perez said.

“It’s a very well-deserved Champions League, it is a result of the players, the coach and the fans, these players have been helped by the fans.” he added.

Meanwhile, La Liga president Javier Tebas described the Mbappe and PSG deal as an insult to football and revealed plans to report PSG to the UEFA.

Yet, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin on Friday called on La Liga to stop criticising PSG.
