Valentino Rossi admits that he is still confident that he can become the 2020 MotoGP world champion after the Styria MotoGP ends.
Rossi has not returned to the podium in the last three MotoGP series. But because Rossi’s record is always better than Quartararo, now The Doctor is 25 points away from the young French racer.
The difference of 25 points makes Rossi not cover himself that he can still hope to become world champion in MotoGP this season.
“We are all a tight distance away, I’m not that far from him. I hope Yamaha does better on the next track,” Rossi said as quoted by GPOne.
Despite his optimism, Rossi also did not cover up that Yamaha was really struggling at the Red Bull Ring. The Doctor has even found a definite answer to the reasons behind his failure to maintain or improve the fifth position he had achieved at the Austrian MotoGP last weekend.
“I finished fifth [in the Austrian MotoGP] because of many accidents but this time all the riders have understood the problems beforehand and can control the bike well and make no mistakes.”
“I am Yamaha’s best rider but I finished in ninth position. The problems we faced were more or less the same as last season. But we did well at Jerez and recorded a hat trick. I think we can be more competitive on the next circuit,” said Rossi.
The Doctor considered that Quartararo himself felt the impact of the Yamaha motorbike that was not competitive in the Red Bull Ring. Rossi doubts that Quartararo’s poor form was due to the competitive pressure that came on him when he was top of the table.
“I don’t know for sure that Quartararo is under pressure, but in my view, he is suffering more from a technical point of view in the form of a bike problem.”
“At Jerez, he always performed strong, the M1 bike did well and won. I think it’s a technical problem,” said Rossi.
