Mick Schumacher, Haas Formula 1 driver, felt “super weird” at Monaco Grand Prix after a huge impact. He crashed into the barrier at the exit of Swimming Pool, followed by a visit to medical facility.
Schumacher, while running on Lap 25, coming through Swimming Pool chicane lost control of his Haas F1 car. He went into right side of the track crashing in the barrier at the end of the corner.
The accident led to loss of rear end and gear box of VF-22 at the time of impact. But Schumacher reported OK to the team over the radio.
The accident called for deployment of a virtual safety car leading to a full safety car. Ultimately, race control opted for red flag to repair the barrier for meeting the necessary protocols.
Schumacher was rushed to the medical facility as a precaution after the crash. However, he was released quickly by the FIA medical staff.
Schumacher on his accident
He spoke at media pen and assured about his health. But he was confused regarding how he lost control of his car.
“It felt super weird,” Schumacher said.
“From what I saw on the video, it just seemed like we were like 10 centimetres further out. And that kind of triggered maybe a wet patch or whatever with the front wheel, which then translated into a rear wheel slide.
“That’s where basically the rear came around. I tried to correct it and that’s why it went to the left.
“It’s very, very unfortunate and very annoying.”

Schumacher’s crash forced Haas’ race at Monaco Grand Prix. His team mate Kevin Magnussen had to retire earlier because of car issues.
Magnussen claims it was “a power unit issue of some sort” and felt his car pace could have resulted in points at the end of the race.
“It was going well until that, we were in P11, much faster than [Valtteri] Bottas”, Magnussen said.
“I was really looking forward to that pit stop. I had just said to the team I wanted to pit for slicks, a couple of guys behind had already pitted for intermediates, we were still on full wet and wanted to go straight to the slick, and that was a big opportunity.
“I’m really disappointed, of course for myself and the team today, because they lost a good opportunity to score points and come back from a disappointing day yesterday.
“The car was great, I had really good pace in these conditions. So yeah. Onto the next one.”
