Scudetto vs Scudetti

The Scudetto is a shield-shaped symbol in green, white and red according to the Italian flag. The emblem is worn by the club that won the Italian Serie A League in the previous season.

As is known, Inter Milan is confirmed to be the champion of the Italian League for the 2020-2021 season. This is due to the draw that Atalanta got at home to Sassuolo in the 34th giornata, Sunday (2/5/2021). Thus, the Nerazzurri, nicknamed Inter Milan, locked the Serie A title for the 2020-2021 season.

Inter sealed the Italian league title because they were 13 points ahead of Atalanta (second) and AC Milan (third) who both collected 69 points. With four matches remaining, Romelu Lukaku et al’s point collection can no longer be pursued by his competitors.

Inter Milan finally ended the scudetto fast for 11 years as well as ending Juventus’ domination in the last nine seasons. The Nerazzurri will also wear the scudetto symbol on their jersey in the next season’s Serie A Italian League competition.

Difference between Scudetto and Scudetti

In Italian, scudetto means “little shield”. This term comes from the word “scudo” which means shield or symbol. The shield-shaped emblem in green, white and red is only worn by the club that won the Italian Serie A in the previous season.

In the season after they become champions, the teams are welcome to wear the badge on their uniform. For example, Juventus, who are the champions of the Italian League in the 2019-2020 Serie A season, have the right to put the Scudetto symbol on their uniforms for the following season, namely the 2020-2021 season.

However, because Juventus is the winner of 9 Italian League titles for the last 9 consecutive seasons, it is called scudetti or the plural form of scudetto. Meanwhile, for Inter Milan, which has just won the Italian League competition for the 2020-2021 season, it is called winning the scudetto.

So, the difference between scudetto and scudetti lies in the form of the word. Scudetti has a singular meaning, while scudetti has a plural meaning. This symbol was used was in 1924 when Genoa won its 9th championship title and decided to add a little shield to their shirt as to reward and celebrate themselves as champions.
