Top Rank President Todd DuBoef has revealed WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford is weighing up fights with WBC, IBF champion Errol Spence, WBA champion Manny Pacquiao, and another option is former welterweight champion Kell Brook at the end of this year.
Crawford is a phenomenal boxer. In many of his fights he completely outclasses his competition. He needs to fight elite boxers to really be recognised as a great boxer.
“Yes, absolutely [Brook is an option]. Brook has made some overtures and had dialogue about the fight and Crawford is interested. We have been open to fighting everybody with Crawford since the minute we signed him. Brook is obviously an option,” DuBoef said.
“Crawford wants to fight Errol Spence Jr or Manny Pacquiao badly but Brook is a possibility. So are Josh Taylor and Jose Ramirez. We are open to everybody.” DuBoef added.
Crawford (36-0-0, 27 KOs), of the United States, is coming off a sixth-round stoppage of former 130-pound world champion Amir Khan in a welterweight contest at Madison Square Garden in New York City back in April 2019 and he once again defended his welterweight title against Egis Kavaliauskas in December.
On the other hand Brook (39-2-0, 27 KOs), in last December had expressed his ambition to face Crawford, and Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said it’s a possible fight in the future.
“I saw Bob Arum out in America, I saw him walking through the lobby in the MGM Grand. I basically went over and said: ‘You’re running out of opponents for Crawford and I’m the guy to beat him. I’m here,” Brook said.
“I saw Terence Crawford, he said he was ready for it, so everybody is on the same page. Everyone wants to make the fight. We just need to make the numbers count for me, for it to make business sense, and then we can get training and get ready for the fight.” Brook added.
