The Wimbledon tournament, plans an edition with reduced capacity, although it does not rule out that it can be done at maximum capacity.

The organisers of the tournament have every intention of returning, with the 134th Wimbledon Championships expected to be held 28 June to 11 July 2021, at the All England Club in London.

The third Grand Slam of the year was the only one that was not played in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the first cancellation of the tournament since World War II.

“Our aspiration is to host the best possible tournament , with the safety of fans, workers and players as the highest priority,” Wimbledon said in a statement.

“Most of our planning focus is currently centred on the option of a reduced capacity Championships and how that would affect each stakeholder group, but we are not yet in a position to rule out any of the other scenarios,” they added.

Wimbledon, five months from the start date, works with the competent authorities and the British Government to know how to act.

The rest of the Grand Slams could be played, either without an audience, like the US Open, or with a very small spectator, like Roland Garros.

The Australian Open, which starts next Monday will do so with very restrictive measures that have forced its participants to carry out 14-day quarantines, as well as tests very frequently.

The 2021 Australian Open, in its attempt to celebrate the tournament as normally as possible, is being played with a spectator in the stands and without masks in between.

The Australian federation on the other hand has therefore been forced to cancel all matches of the ATP Cup and of the tournaments prior to the Australian Open 2021, which also take place in Melbourne Park.
