Manchester City took a step towards becoming champions after silencing Tottenham with a score of 2-0 in the postponed match in Week 34 of the 2023/2024 Premier League which was held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Tuesday (14/5/2024).
The match was relatively even and no goals were scored throughout the first half. City only succeeded in ensuring victory in the second half through two goals scored by Erling Haaland.
Thanks to this result, Man City with 88 points has the right to displace Arsenal from the top of the standings and is one step closer to becoming champions. Meanwhile, Spurs are stuck in fifth place with 63 points and are certain to fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Both Spurs and City tried to play aggressively from the start. However, both of them had difficulty breaking down their respective opponents’ defenses. The 0-0 score lasted until halftime.
Returning from the dressing room, City finally managed to break the deadlock in the 51st minute. Haaland managed to cheat Kevin De Bruyne’s horizontal crossing to beat Guglielmo Vicario.
In the 69th minute, Pep Guardiola decided to take out Ederson, who had previously experienced a fatal collision with Cristian Romero. Now, City’s goal is guarded by Stefan Ortega.
Spurs tried their best to catch up in the remaining time. Instead of being successful, the hosts were awarded a penalty after Pedro Porro committed a violation in the forbidden box in the 90th minute.
Haaland, who stepped up to become the executioner, had no difficulty breaking into Vicario’s goal from the penalty spot. A score of 2-0 for City’s victory was the final result of this match.
Erling Haaland deserves to be chosen as the best player in Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Tottenham.
Haaland once again proved his sharpness and how dangerous he is in front of the opponent’s goal. Haaland also showed that he is a very clinical player.
Imagine, the two goals he scored came from a total of two shots he fired throughout the match. This means that Haaland doesn’t need many opportunities to get his name on the scoreboard.
The additional two goals, one of which was from a penalty, also increased Haaland’s goal collection in the Premier League this season to 27, as well as further establishing himself at the top of the top scorer list.
