The reason no English football club uses the name London

The reason there is no English football club using the London name will be reviewed by SportReviews. Not a few Premier League fans are not aware that the clubs that appear in the highest football caste of Queen Elizabeth II Country have never used the name London.

Call it, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, which are among the big clubs in the English capital. However, it is different from other regions which often include the name of a city, such as Manchester United and Manchester City, which are headquartered in Manchester, as well as Liverpool, which is headquartered in Liverpool.

Of course this is a question for some football fans. Many thought that no club dared to claim the city’s name as the club’s name. So why is that? Here’s an explanation.

Please note, London is a very large place covering an area of 1,572 square km. That size is two times bigger than Manchester and 15 times bigger than Liverpool.

As mentioned above, there are many clubs playing in the top tier of English football based in the city. Of course it would be unfair to Londoners if one club bears the name of their city and represents them.

Because of the extent of London, each club even has its own base in the city. For example, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur represent North London, there are also Chelsea and Fulham which represent West London.

Having a large area, of course a club based in London must be able to represent the entire London area, not just the area that is its base. In addition, as the nation’s capital, London is one of the bases for various levels of the football pyramid.

From the Premier League which is the top caste to the Southern National League competition which has the sixth caste status, you can find it here. In the 2021-2022 Premier League season, London is represented by six clubs including Arsenal, Brentford, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

Meanwhile, the Championship division includes Fulham, Millwall and Queens Park Rangers. Meanwhile, AFC Wimbledon and Charlton Athletic enlivened League One.

That is the reason no English football club uses the London name.
