Tottenham lose 1-3 from Wolverhampton in the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur lost 1-3 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the continuation of the English Premier League match at Wembley Stadium on Saturday (29/12).

In the 22nd minute, Tottenham opened a 1-0 lead through Harry Kane’s curling left-footed shot. Kane’s goal was created by the mistake of the Wolverhampton player who lost the ball after dueling with Harry Winks.

The wild ball was captured by Son Heung-min who was immediately given to Kane. After dribbling the ball to the front of the opponent’s penalty box, the England national striker thoughtlessly released a left-footed shot that slid to the right side of the goal so that goalkeeper Rui Patricio had hardly anticipated.

The goal against Wolverhampton was 13th for Kane from 19 English Premier League matches this season. In the first round Kane also broke into Wolverhampton’s goal when Tottenham won 3-2.

In the remainder of the first half both teams launched attacks. The host tried to attack through Son Heung-min. Likewise with the visitors who responded via Ruben Neves. But an attempt from Tottenham and Wolverhampton failed to add to the number of goals in the first half. The score remained 1-0 for Tottenham in the first 45 minutes.

In the second half Wolverhampton was more aggressive in attacking to equalize. It’s just that the performance of Tottenham’s back line was more solid, one of them when breaking Adama Traore’s attack in the 51st minute.

Six minutes later it was Raul Jimenez’s turn to give a signal of danger to The Lilywhites. But Jimenez’s efforts have not yet paid off. Wolverhampton’s efforts to threaten Tottenham bear fruit at 72nd. Joa Moutinho’s corner kick successfully utilized by Willy Boly with a header to the right post which Hugo Lloris could not anticipate.

Success in equalizing makes Wolverhampton increasingly confident. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team could reverse the position to lead 2-1 in the 83rd minute through Raul Jimenez.

A goal from Jimenez was created thanks to the acceleration of Ivan Cavaleiro on the left side. After getting a pass from Cavaleiro, Jimenez fired a shot past the sidelines of Toby Alderweireld’s legs. Jimenez’s right foot kick is not too tight, only the right direction to the right corner cannot be reached by Lloris.

Four minutes later Wolverhampton was further away from Tottenham’s pursuit after Helder Costa found the net at Lloris. Costa scored after a solo run after getting an assist from Matt Doherty.

Tottenham failed to add to the number of goals in the remainder of the game which made them lose 3-1 to Wolverhampton. These results make the position of Tottenham as runners-up while in the Premier League standings threatened by Manchester City.
