Chelsea’s dressing room heats up ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League matchday 21 after coach Thomas Tuchel and striker Romelu Lukaku clashed.
The Blues will host Liverpool in a crucial match at Stamford Bridge Stadium after the New Year, Sunday (2/1) night.
However, Chelsea, who has been inconsistent in the last five matches in the Premier League, must face internal problems ahead of the tough match.
Recently, there was an interview with Lukaku criticizing Tuchel’s policies in the Blues squad. Lukaku’s disappointment was responded to by Tuchel through the annoyance shown in the press conference ahead of the match against the Reds.
“Of course we don’t like it [criticism], because it brings noise that we don’t need and it doesn’t help. We don’t want to produce more than it really is,” Tuchel was quoted as saying by Football London.
“To be honest, we didn’t like it, I didn’t like it because of the noise we didn’t need. We needed a quiet and focused environment and that didn’t help,” Tuchel added.
Coach Thomas Tuchel is said to be upset after learning that striker Romelu Lukaku has exposed the situation at Chelsea ahead of the Premier League match against Liverpool.
In an interview with Sky Sport, Lukaku admitted that he is not happy at Chelsea, even though the Belgian is physically in good condition.
Despite admitting that he is unhappy at Chelsea and uncomfortable with Thomas Tuchel’s tactics, Romelu Lukaku feels he will not give up on his current situation.
“I will not give up. I will (be) professional. I’m not happy with the current situation, but I’m a professional and I can’t give up now.”
We don’t know what Lukaku meant about him being unhappy at Chelsea. However, since joining the Blues he seems to have lost his touch. Lukaku doesn’t look as sharp as before. And he is more marginalized even though he claims to have recovered from injury and is free from Covid-19.
This season, Lukaku has not been Tuchel’s first choice in front of Chelsea. The German coach sometimes plays Christian Pulisic as a false nine or relies on Kai Havertz.
This condition made Lukaku disappointed by saying Tuchel would rather choose a system and other players rather than rely on the former Inter Milan player.
Although Lukaku has openly admitted to being disappointed, Tuchel does not feel that the striker who was once in Manchester United’s uniform is not happy at Stamford Bridge.
“Not at all. I don’t think he is unhappy, I feel the opposite. If you had asked me yesterday morning I would have said I felt the opposite, that’s why it’s surprising but I’m the wrong person to ask,” Tuchel said.
