Tyson Fury Reveals Retirement Plan in 2020

Tyson Fury

The world heavyweight Tyson Fury revealed retirement plan and intention to have WBC champion Deontay Wilder meeting in 2020.

Wilder has already made plans to fight Luiz Ortiz for a rematch, likely pushing back a potential undisputed heavyweight title fight until next year.

In 2017, Vladimir Klitschko announced his retirement from professional boxing, ending any chance of a rematch against former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua. However, Fury’s retirement is not the same as Klitschko’s.

Fury told a reporter on PA Sport: “I said to my coach, ‘if I have another one of these fights, I’m done with boxing’. I don’t think I will have many more fights. Maybe another three maximum. That’s it,”

“I don’t know what Klitschko’s motivation was. I think I am coming to the tail end of my boxing career at the ripe old age of 31. It’s a young man’s game. I’ve had my time in the sun. A few more fights and I will relax on the beach somewhere.” Fury added.

Fury is a very naturally gifted boxer, particularly defensively and in terms of foot work. Pretty good chin and throws from some odd angles that other boxers cannot.

In his last fight, the Gypsy King beat Otto Wallin by unanimous decision. But his win was in doubt from the third round after his vision was hampered following a hefty blow to his right eye.

The 31-year-old has appeared twice on WWE in recent weeks and will compete against superstar Braun Strowman in Saudi Arabia on 31 October. Fury has been training at the camp in Florida.

“It’s been hard training. Anyone who says that it’s not hard training needs to go down and have a little whirl and come back and let me know how easy it is.” Fury said.

“I’m not used to getting smashed onto the floor and suplexed across the ring and two-feeted out of the ring. I’m not used to any of that. I don’t get hit in my fights really – the odd occasion – so it’s all new to me, taking blows and all that sort of stuff.” he added.
