Uruguay and South Korea share numbers, the score is 0-0

Uruguay and South Korea had to settle for sharing points when playing their first match at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Uruguay vs South Korea match held at Education City on Thursday, 24 November 2022.

In this article, SportReviews will summarize interesting reviews and summaries of the Uruguay vs South Korea match.

Uruguay and South Korea are in Group H along with Portugal and Ghana.

Uruguay coach Diego Alonso hit back at accusations that his team was too defensive against the team from the State of Ginseng.

Alonso fielded veteran player Luis Suarez, Liverpool player Darwin Nunez.

Apart from that, Alonso also played young Manchester United player Facundo Pellistri in his attacking trio.

Pellistri played on the right wing but Nunez mostly moved in from the left.

Meanwhile, the center position is occupied by Suarez.

This makes Uruguay’s defense vacant and more attacked by South Korea.

Uruguay started late but Alonso pointed to the fact his team hit the woodwork twice.

This opportunity served as proof that his squad had tried to win the game.

“It’s clear that the characteristics of our starting eleven are mostly attacking players,” the coach was quoted as saying by contentPedia from the AFP page.

“We’ve got Darwin, Suarez and Pellistri, we’ve also fielded three goalscoring midfielders and a full-back who can press.”

He added: “I like to defend higher but in the first half we struggled to do that. In the second half we were better.”

“We lacked precision in creating chances, we lacked the combination of passes that we usually have.”

Uruguay captain Diego Godin hit the post in the first half.

Opportunities were created again through Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde.

Godin said the team needed to put an end to their disappointment in the games against Ghana and Portugal later.

“In a tournament like this there is no time for regrets, you have to think about the next match,” he continued.

“We have to improve things, improve what we can, we need to grow and get better, we have the players to do more.”

When Godin was playing in his fourth World Cup.

Meanwhile, Valverde, who became man-of-the-match, became one of the debutants at this World Cup.

“This is a dream come true,” Valverde said after the match, summarized from the official FIFA website.

“I really enjoyed it. I was very nervous before this game but what a beautiful experience.”

“I’m very happy. Physically, I finished the game well. I’m sad I didn’t win but I congratulate my team-mates who gave everything.”

“They showed great commitment and if we continue playing like this I think we will go far,” said Valverde optimistically.
