Vasek Pospisil Lists Challenges Around Reviving Tennis

With stimulus plans making headlines in the past few days, Vasek Pospisil commented on tennis in an interview with the Antechamber on Wednesday.

The Canadian as rightly mentioned that tennis played on an international scale certainly poses complications when the time comes to think of a resumption of activities with COVID-19.

“The problem with tennis is that it’s very global. One week we are in America and the other in Europe. Sometimes it’s easier for other sports, like hockey, which are all in one place,” Pospisil said.

When the parallel is drawn with Formula 1, while the first races will be disputed in Europe, Pospisil does not rule out the idea, but he maintains that it will be necessary to see the sanitary measures in place for each country.

It is difficult for Pospisil to see how a player should go to a place, stay there in quarantine for 14 days, before repeating the exercise in another country for a new tournament.

“I think it is possible, but the only thing that would be complicated would be to always submit to the 14 days in quarantine. We will have to do with the countries, because I don’t think there will be permissions for the athletes,” Pospisil said.

The 29-year old man made no secret of his desire to return to the game during the interview and said there should be more details by Thursday when the players and the ATP circuit have a meeting. There is obviously no shortage of subjects or questions to be addressed.

“It’s difficult. Just like anything, when you bring a new approach or try to change something in a big way, there will be guys [who] support that and guys that are against it.” Pospisil said.

“And a lot of times when I do, that information is confidential. It’s difficult to have a strong opinion when you don’t have all the information.” he added.
