Vettel to Leave Ferrari at end of 2020

Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari are setting apart at the end of Formula 1 season of 2020.

Reportedly, negotiations over a new contract between the parties fell apart. On Tuesday, the Italian outfit confirmed that both have disengaged from further negotiations.

A statement from Scuderia Ferrari quoted four times world champion Vettel as: “The team and I have realized that there is no longer a common desire to stay together beyond the end of this season.

“Financial matters have played no part in this joint decision. That’s not the way I think when it comes to making certain choices and it never will be.”

Reports from German tabloid Bild and Auto Motor und Sport magazine suggest that Vettel had rejected to take negotiation further.

Earlier, Vettel had spoken about the need for parties to reach a conclusion before the start of season.

Now, news have surfaced that he have rejected the terms offered by Ferrari and decided to move on in his career.

The German will be leaving the team at the end of 2020. He was offered a single year contract despite his desire to win a three year contract. His last contract with Ferrari for three year was considered best paid.

Also, reports suggest that he was offered a lower salary with a shorter contract.

Vettel vs Leclerc at Ferrari

Vettel was on boarded by Ferrari in 2015 after his outstanding performance at Red Bull. He remained victorious with Austrian team from 2010 to 2013. He won straight four world-championships.

Kimi Raikkonen, who won world championship in 2007, accompanied the German for much of his tenure at Ferrari. But last year, Ferrari chose to switch the drivers with Alfa Romeo.

Charles Leclerc was exchanged with Raikkonen and drove with Ferrari in 2019.

Leclerc, a rising F1 star, stunned with his performance when he out shined Vettel in his debut Ferrari season. He fetched the longstanding victory at the Italian home ground.

Ferrari chose to invest in Leclerc at the end of 2019, when they signed a long term deal expiring in 2024.

The Italian team have showed their long term interest in Leclerc, which seems to be one of the obvious reasons for Vettel to leave the team.
