Without Lionel Messi, PSG Beat Brest 4-2

Paris Saint-Germain managed to beat Brest in the 2021/2022 Ligue 1 match which was still not followed by Lionel Messi with a final score of 4-2, Saturday (21/8).

Not only Messi who was not brought by Mauricio Pochettino in the match at the Francis le Ble Stadium, Sergio Ramos and Neymar were also not included.

In that match, PSG was able to score early in the 23rd minute through a volley from outside the penalty box by Ander Herera.

PSG doubled the score in the 36th minute. The ball released by Georginio Wijnaldum hit a Brest player but was then successfully headed by Kylian Mbappe through the Brest goal.

After trailing by two goals, Brest closed the gap in the final three minutes of the first half. Kick from Franck Honorat failed to anticipate by Keylor Navas. The position is 2-1 for PSG.

In the second half, PSG did not appear slack until in the 73rd minute their third goal was created. Idrissa Gueye managed to score a spectacular goal from 32 meters soared past Marco Bizot’s defense.

Brest managed to reply when the game was running 85 minutes. Steve Mounie was able to score a goal by utilizing Ronael Pierre-Gabriel’s bait. The score became 3-2 with PSG still winning.

Brest tried to equalize in the remaining time. However, in the 90th minute, Angel Di Maria managed to break into the hosts’ goal. Until the end of the match, the score was 4-2 for PSG.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach Mauricio Pochettino is grateful his team was able to win 4-2 over Brest after almost failing to take all three points in the French League match

Pochettino considered the last five minutes of normal time a crazy situation. Because the PSG goal was threatened by Brest several times and the Parisian club almost failed to win. PSG was only able to get out of pressure when Angel Di Maria scored the fourth goal in the first minute of injury time.

“I thought we played well in the first half. It’s a shame we conceded the goal like that. In the first half we regained control of the game, and I think when it was 3-1 it was almost over,” Pochettino was quoted as saying by PSG’s official website.

“We conceded again and then it happened five crazy minutes. But the win and these three points are important before the international break. It is important for us to have nine points and be top of the table. This victory is also important for our confidence,” said Pochettino.

Di Maria himself admitted that he was happy to score a goal that was able to make PSG out of pressure. The Argentine was delighted to be able to score straight away in his first game for PSG this season.

“I’m very happy to be back playing, back wearing this team shirt. I’m happy to score a goal. I think my goal was quite important because the position was still 3-2 at that time. We needed that goal,” said Di Maria.

Victory over Brest put PSG at the top of the French League standings with a perfect score of nine points from three matches.
