Real Mandrid manager Zinedine Zidane at his press conference has refused to comment on the controversial European Super League.
According to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez the European Super League was created “to save football”.
“These are questions for the President. I am here to talk about the game against Cadiz tomorrow (Thursday).” Zidane said.
“We have not talked about a possible sanction in the Champions League for the Super League. Nothing, zero. We do not talk about that.
“I’m not going to give my opinion about the Super League. You can say I never get involved and that is true.” Zidane added.
According to reports, six English Premier League clubs, Spanish club Atletico Madrid and Italian sides AC Milan and Inter Milan formally pulled out. Only Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are still strongly committed to the project.
UEFA has responded to the controversial and threatening to ban the clubs and their players joining ESL. But Perez insisted the football governing body has not stood out for its transparency.
“They are the threats of someone who confuses monopoly with property. Madrid will not be kicked out of the Champions League, definitely not. Nor Manchester City, nor anyone else.” Perez said.
“It’s not going to happen. I don’t want to get into the legal reasons but it’s not going to happen. It’s impossible.” Perez added.
FIFA on Monday said in a statement that it could only disapprove of a closed and dissident European League outside the structures of football.
“FIFA wants to clarify that it is firmly positioned in favor of solidarity in football and a fair redistribution model,” FIFA said in a statement.
“We call on all parties involved in heated discussions to engage in a calm, constructive and balanced dialogue for the sake of this game.” FIFA added.
