Real Madrid improved their three-point lead at the top of La Liga by coming from behind to defeat Osasuna on Sunday.
Zinedine Zidane set striker Gareth Bale first league start at El Sadr in over a month. The Welshman was withdrawn after 70 minutes in his first appearance since suffering an ankle sprain on 22 January, despite being fit for the past three fixtures.
Speaking at his press conference, Zidane has backed Bale to come good in the team, and he believed the 30-year-old striker will give big impact until the end of the 2019/20 season.
“He [Gareth Bale] is an important player. He has shown it. He hasn’t played the last three games and he played 70 good minutes defensively.
“Everyone wants us to have a problem with Gareth, but there isn’t one. I’m happy with his game. Offensively and defensively he gave everything.
“He was a bit short physically at the end, that’s why he came off. We know the player he is and he’ll give us a lot until the end of the season.” Zidane added.
Bale played a role in the merrymaker with 33 played when he saw a shot deflect into the lane of Isco and he volleyed home with self-confidence.
Los Blancos have now gone 14 league games without defeat to reach the summit and move into a position of control in the La Liga title race.
When asked about Luka Jovic, Zidane insisted the midfielder can be still become a success at Madrid in the future.
“I’m happy for him. He needed it, he’s a pure striker and you can say a lot of things, that he is playing well, but if he doesn’t score he isn’t happy. He has to improve, but I’m happy with his goal.” Zidane said.
The Serbian international talent joined Madrid for 70 euros in last summer. He has yet to make a major impact at Santiago Bernabeu, starting just three La Liga matches.
