Three Liverpool players were the victims of the victory over Brentford in Week 25 of the 2023-2024 Premier League. The three players are Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez.
Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp, also revealed the conditions of Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez. The reason is, the three players experienced problems when the Reds – Liverpool’s nickname – won a landslide 4-1 victory over Brentford.
Liverpool had to pay dearly for the victory due to injuries to Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota. Apart from that, Darwin Nunez also experienced problems so he couldn’t appear until the end of the match.
Jurgen Klopp said Curtis Jones suffered a blow to his ankle, resulting in an injury. However, he could not confirm whether the English midfielder had a serious injury or not.
“Curtis Jones suffered a knock on his ankle. He is not 100 percent sure whether it is serious or not,” said Jurgen Klopp, quoted from SkySports, Sunday (18/2/2024).
The German coach said Diogo Jota was the player who suffered the most serious injury compared to Curtis Jones. Then, Jurgen Klopp explained that Darwin Nunez didn’t feel good enough to continue the match and made him come off at the start of the second half.
“Diogo Jota looked the worst. I didn’t see him directly, but what was seen from the incident didn’t look good,” explained Klopp.
“We removed Darwin Nunez because he said he felt something was not good,” he continued.
Klopp also decided to withdraw Darwin Nunez to prevent a more serious injury. Moreover, the Reds will face Chelsea in the final round of the English League Cup at Wembley Stadium, Sunday 25 February 2024.
However, even though a number of players were injured, Liverpool were able to still achieve victory at the Gtech Community Stadium, Saturday 17 February 2024, Darwin Nunez (35′), Alexis Mac Allister (55′), Mohamed Salah (68′) and Cody Gakpo (86 ‘) scored Liverpool’s winning goal.
