More than two months later, Deontay Wilder will defend the WBC title against Tyson Fury. Although the date and venue are yet to be decided, it appears certain a rematch will take place before the end of February, 2020.
Speaking to reporters, Wilder said he can’t wait to face Fury for second time and is going to be more prepared and more ready.
“I can’t wait. I had a beautiful vacation in Italy, we met Pope Francis, it was such a tremendous honor. I got to stand in the Colosseum, man, the whole journey was just checking off bucket list items.” Wilder said.
“My mind is right, now we ready to add my next highlight, baby. I’ve been holding the heavyweight division down when it comes to excitement. Whatever Tyson Fury wants to do with his career and whoever training him, all he’s doing is preparing himself to be added to my career highlight reel.
“Everything I throw will hurt him. I can’t wait. It will be an amazing fight, an amazing night. All the work we put in this camp, will all lead to adding to my collection of memorable knockouts.” Wilder added.
Wilder and Fury fought to an incredible draw in their heavyweight title bout in Los Angeles on December, 1, 2018. Three judges score the bout 115-111 Wilder, 114-112 Fury and 113-113.
In his last fight, the “Bronze Bomber” knocked out Luis Ortiz in the seventh round to retain his WBC heavyweight world title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Fury, meanwhile, has split with his trainer, Ben Davison. The Briton later revealed that he will now work under Javan ‘Sugar’ Hill, the nephew of the late trainer Emmanuel Steward.
Davison has been with the “Gypsy King” since before Tyson made his comeback and has been in the corner for him for Fury’s last 5 fights.
“Tyson and myself had to make decisions which resulted in our working relationship coming to an end. We remain friends and he will smash the dosser.” Davison said.
