The Brazzilian Alex Telles signing on the last day of the summer window was arguably the one Manchester United didn’t need.

Meanhile Luke Shaw has been a constant presence for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at left-back and Brandon Williams, left-footed, also provided cover for the England international.

But the arrival of Telles offered something that Solskjaer is so keen to add the competition. The 28-yearold defender sparked an almost immediate return to form for Shaw, who improved his game to ensure he retains his place in United’s starting XI.

United also brought in Bruno Fernandes last January, the Portugal playmaker proving to be a massive hit since arriving for a rumoured upfront fee of £47million.

Executive Vice President Ed Woodward recently confirmed that Old Trafford bosses will continue to support Solskjaer in the transfer market, with a focus on their recruiting strategy this summer.

“What happens on the field is clearly our top priority. While it’s not the same without fans in the stadium, we’ve seen lots of highs since our last meeting in April.” Woodward said.

“We had a 14-game unbeaten run to finish third in last season’s Premier League run and great wins against PSG and RB Leipzig on our return to the Champions League this season.

“Of course, we recognise there’s more hard work ahead to achieve the consistency needed to win trophies. But we see positive signs on the pitch and the training ground that reinforce our belief in the progress being made by Ole, his coaching team and the players.” Woodward added.

Solskjaer has reportedly indicated four positions United need to level up and strengthen before they are truly ready to compete for the Premier League title again.

“We will continue to support Ole with a planned, long-term approach to recruitment, focused on the summer windows.” Woodward said.
