Deontay Wilder: Mike Tyson Made the Wrong Decision to Duel With Jake Paul

It is feared that Mike Tyson will fall into a coma during his fight with Jake Paul. This opinion was expressed by former world heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder.

Mike Tyson accepted the challenge of a duel against Jake Paul in July 2024. This duel is no longer an exhibition duel, but an official match.

Wilder then saw that creating the Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul agreement under the umbrella of a professional duel was a big mistake. Wilder then said that the party who gave the permission of this duel as the one who should be responsible if something bad happens.

“I think it’s a bad decision that the Commission gave a license to Mike Tyson because he hasn’t been active for 20 years. They shouldn’t give him a license just because of who he is. This is what could then cause injury.”

“Boxers can be hit in the wrong place and at the wrong time, there have been many examples of someone getting hit and then going into a coma. He [Mike Tyson] is too old for this,” Wilder told Sportsbook Review as quoted by the Daily Mail.

Wilder thinks no one really cares about Mike Tyson. In Wilder’s view, the idea of inviting Mike Tyson to fight on a professional level should never have occurred. That decision was a big mistake.

“In the end, no one cares about Mike. We can talk pros and cons, but in the end, they never really care. I don’t think anyone cares about Mike because if they cared, they certainly wouldn’t have given the permission for this duel.”

“The strength may not really be gone, but a fighter needs preparation, the stamina has to really be there at a certain point or else the fight will be like a clown show. I don’t want to see that,” said Wilder.

Wilder also doesn’t want Mike Tyson’s big name to be tarnished in his old age because of his decision to fight again against a YouTuber who is 31 years younger than him.

“I don’t want the last thing I remember about him to be him losing by knockout to a YouTuber. The last thing he did is what many people often remember,” said Wilder.
