Novak Djokovic Ready To Make Decisions About 2022 Australian Open

Novak Djokovic said he would make a decision about participating in the 2022 Australian Open shortly after he and Serbia were knocked out of the Davis Cup Finals.

The world number 1 couldn’t add the Davis Cup Finals title to his 2021 season tally after he and his Serbian team lost in the semifinals.

Although the 20-year-old Grand Slam title defeated Croatian Marin Cilic in straight sets, the Serbian team was unable to win the doubles match after he and Filip Krajinovic failed to beat the current world’s best team, Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic who won by two straight sets.

After the match, all attention is now on the question of whether the world number 1 will compete at the Australian Open with the tennis star’s vaccine status still unconfirmed.

However, the 2021 Australian Open champion revealed that fans will have to wait a little longer for the decision after he wants to rest with his family.

“I understand that you want to get answers about where I will start the 2022 season, how I will start,” said Novak Djokovic.

“I’m really tired from this season and the whole season, so I’ll choose to spend some quality time with my family, rehab, then we’ll see what the future brings.”

“You will be notified. I know what you want and will not answer you at this time. I know what you want to ask me. But you will be notified. That’s all I can say. I can’t give an exact date. Of course the tournament in Australia is just around the corner, so you’ll find out soon enough.”

If Djokovic starts the 2022 season in Australia, he will aim to become the men’s player with the most Grand Slam titles, surpassing Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer with 21.

However, Djokovic knows that with Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev in the heat waiting to hit the ground running again, it will not be an easy task.
