Man City vs Liverpool Tight, Premier League Proof of Best League?

Man City vs Liverpool Tight, Premier League Proof of Best League?

The Premier League again provides fierce competition in the title race involving Liverpool and Manchester City until the end of the season.

Sunday (22/5) will be the 38th week which will determine the champion of the highest caste football in Queen Elizabeth’s country. Only two potential champions for the Premier League this season, Liverpool and Manchester City.

As usual, the Premier League has spawned a number of potential winners since the start of the season, including Chelsea and Manchester United.

However, only Liverpool and Man City were able to maintain consistency until the end of the season.

Until week 37, Man City still occupied the top of the standings with a record of 28 wins, 6 draws, and 3 defeats. Meanwhile, Liverpool, who is in second place, has 27 wins, 8 draws and 2 defeats.

With the acquisition of 90 points by Man City and 89 points from Liverpool plus one game remaining for both teams, then the Premier League title must be decided this weekend.

In addition to winning the most points, The Citizens and Liverpool were also noted to be the most productive camps in scoring goals. Man City scored 96 goals and conceded 24, while the Reds scored 91 goals and conceded 25.

Man City’s fierce rivalry with Liverpool until the end of the season did not happen this time.

Liverpool and Man City first competed tightly in the 2013/2014 season when Man City was still managed by Manuel Pellegrini while Liverpool was managed by Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool, who was waiting for the first Premier League title in the club’s history, had to accept the harsh reality of releasing the championship trophy to Manchester City. The absurd moment of Steven Gerrard’s slip is considered to be one of the causes of the Reds’ failure to win the title.

Similar conditions were repeated in the 2018/2019 season. Three years ago, The Citizens came out as champions with a difference of one point (98 points) with Liverpool (97 points). This is the first moment of competition between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.

Again, Man City and Liverpool must return to compete for the championship stage until the last seconds. This scenario is also a sign that the Premier League is still the fiercest tournament among the top five European leagues.

This season Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) confirmed the status of Ligue 1 champions since last April. The same thing also experienced Bayern Munich who won the Bundesliga 10 seasons in a row.

Real Madrid also officially added their 35th La Liga title this season with a dominant. El Real left Barcelona in second place with a difference of 12 points.

Only the Dutch League now has a high level of competition in the 2021/2022 season. Ajax Amsterdam successfully ensured the title in the last week with a difference of two points from PSV Eindhoven.

The Italian league this season is also running tight until the end of the season. However, the prestige of Serie A in recent seasons is not equal to the Premier League.

The nicks of Manchester City and Liverpool this season show that only these two teams are consistently hunting for the title.

Compare that to Chelsea, who is in third place but only recorded 74 goals and conceded 32 times, or Tottenham Hotspur who scored 64 goals and conceded 40 times as the fourth position occupants.

The difference in goals between the top four teams in the standings proves that Man City and Liverpool are both worthy of being strong contenders for the title.

The last weekend of the Premier League will not be limited to a duel for the Premier League trophy, but also the prestige between Liverpool and Man City.

Liverpool are looking to win a quadruple title if they win the Premier League and Champions League after winning the FA Cup and the English League Cup.

Meanwhile, Man City, who failed to win the Champions League again, wants to maintain the confidence of fans by winning their sixth Premier League title.

On matchday 38, Man City will host Aston Villa at the Etihad, Sunday (22/5), while Liverpool will host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield.

Liverpool can be more advantaged for the race for the Premier League title later. The reason is, in the Villa squad there will be ‘blood’ Liverpool who can help Villa tackle Man City.

Villa is now being coached by Steven Gerrard, a living Liverpool legend who has never tasted a Premier League trophy, and Philippe Coutinho who has had a stellar season at the club from the port city.

The visitors may want to end the season well, without defeat. But beyond that all Gerrard and Coutinho are believed to be going all out to tackle the hosts and help Liverpool win.

If Liverpool win over Wolves, while Man City is held by Villa, Jurgen Klopp’s team will win.

On the other hand, Man City will win even with a draw if Liverpool are also held by Wolverhampton.
