Carlos Sainz, Ferrari Formula 1 driver, believe Silverstone Grand Prix will be a benchmark for his performance. He claims it will be a “good reference” about how comfortable he is with his Ferrari F1-75.
The Spanish driver struggled with his F1-75 at the early stages of the season. However, he found a good combo with his car which was evident in Monaco and Baku. He also remained at the tail of Max Verstappen in Montreal where his finished second on podium.
The Spaniard had the difficult time at Barcelona. He claims Silverstone offers the same kind of circuit, where he could test his compatibility with the car.
Sainz conceded that his form was applaudable over the recent races. However, he thinks Copse will offer an opportunity to test his progress.
“Yeah, I’m a bit more excited, not only from Canada, but also Baku, Monaco. I’ve had a few decent weekends in the car now,” he said in a response to a question.
“I think Silverstone is going to represent more of a challenge. Because it’s closer to what Barcelona was, which is the circuit that I’ve struggled the most up until now.

“So I think it’s going to be a good reference for me to see how much I’ve moved on. And how much have I really improved with this car. Because definitely since Monaco I felt a lot closer and a lot more comfortable with the car.”
Sainz car had a chassis change for the British GP. He acknowledged that he need to be patient for his first victory.
“I want it more than anyone in the paddock. I know a lot of people want that win also for me,” he said.
“But I can tell you that in the times that I’ve come close, I’ve pushed flat out, and I’ve tried everything I could to get it. And I think I need to stay patient, I don’t need to chase it, and I think it will come.”
Sainz responded to whether there still lies an opportunity for title fight in 2022.
“I don’t look at the title fight too much,” he said. “Mainly because I did fall away very early in the season with my two zeros, they were consecutive, and then another zero in Baku.
“Honestly, it put me quite far behind but if I focus on winning races, I think that will put me back in the fight.”
