Andrey Rublev stated that one of the most important actions of the 2022 season was writing an anti-war message into the camera lens while competing in Dubai.

The world number 8 wrote ‘No War Please’ into the camera lens after advancing to the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships in February.

The 25-year-old also wrote ‘Peace, Peace, Peace, All we need’ after winning a match at the ATP Finals last November, nine months after Russia invaded Ukraine.

Following the ATP Finals, Rublev uploaded a post via Instagram which read, “Torino, thank you so much for all the love and support throughout the week that I didn’t deserve. But the way I feel this week with your kindness and support shows me that I can be a better person and player. It means a lot to me. Thank you.”

Ahead of returning to action at the Diriyah Cup, Saudi Arabia this week, the winner in Marseille for the 2022 season said the support he received in Turin was a special moment.

“I am not happy to talk about myself and say something good about myself, I can only judge myself,” says Andrey Rublev.

“That’s why this season, especially with the situation in the world, you feel that maybe you don’t deserve it and when you feel the support of people, especially in Turin, I’ve never felt anything like that before. It was a really special moment.”

“One of the best things I did this season was the message I left in Dubai. It’s the most meaningful thing I could do this season.”

“In my case, I feel very lucky. I can’t say anything or complain because I can play and travel. In my position I feel very lucky, but there are millions of people who are suffering and it is very bad.”

Meanwhile, asked about his ambitions for the 2023 season, Rublev added, “My goal is simple, to keep improving. I still have a lot of room for improvement in the game, mentally, analyzing the season, analyzing all the things I did wrong, all the games where I misbehaved, the games where I played with a tough mentality, and focused on the direction. and try not to make too many mistakes.”

Rublev is one of five top 10 players who will appear in the Diriyah Cup alongside Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz and Hubert Hurkacz. The exhibition will start on December 8.
